REACH because safety comes first
The EU chemicals regulation called REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of CHemicals), which entered into force on June 1, 2007, and applies to all member countries of the EU, imposes obligations on chemical suppliers and their customers. The regulation should be fully implemented by 2018.
As an importer and distributor of substances and preparations, we cooperate closely with industry and trade associations in order to remain constantly informed about the latest developments regarding the application and interpretation of the REACH regulation.
In order to ensure compliance with legal requirements, we cooperate closely with our customers and suppliers. The emphasis is on conducting business simply and at the lowest possible cost for the benefit of our customers.
We are currently preparing for the registration of our imported products. Registration is a prerequisite for taking advantage of the transitional marketing period.
Chemicals considered indispensable by the chemical industry had to be declared in a six-month-long pre-registration phase up to the end of November 2008. First of all, substances in the largest so-called tonnage band were registered: substances whose production or import volume exceed 1,000 metric tons per year. A registration period of three and a half years has applied to this tonnage band since REACH entered into force. A registration period of six years applies to substances with a volume in excess of 100 metric tons, and a period of 11 years applies to substances in the 1–100 metric ton range. Particularly hazardous chemicals had to be registered by the end of November 2010 regardless of their volume. This pertained to carcinogenic and mutagenic substances, and also to substances that are particularly hazardous to the environment.
